Hey friends! Here is yet another delicious Asian-inspired recipe from our friend Zhengzheng Ren from Shanghai. Easy, Chinese-style sauteed shrimp is fast, delicious, and one of my absolute favorites!
Don’t be shy with the garlic and ginger. You will be hooked!

Why you will love this recipe
First and foremost, this dish is super flavorful and tasty. Chinese-style shrimp is a pantry-style recipe that can be made with frozen shrimp and mostly shelf-stable ingredients, yet it is healthy, fresh, and colorful.
Make it in one skillet using ingredients you probably have hanging out in your kitchen already. It comes together quickly, in about 30 minutes.😃
I love that this shrimp dish is uber-flexible. It is ideal for a busy weeknight dinner, with a side for a large and complete meal, or a great appetizer idea when friends are dropping in.
If you are looking for something with lots of flavors, quick, healthy, and delicious, this is it!
Are you looking for summer dinner ideas? How about a light lunch or a cozy fall or winter appetizer idea? Yup. This easy shrimp dish works perfectly in every category.
If you are looking for spicy recipes, you can notch this formula up to your preferred heat level. Add crushed chili peppers or more garlic for even more flavor.
We like it with just enough spice and a whole lotta garlic, but you be you. Make it your way, mild or potent.

Ingredients
Here are the main items you will need:
Cooking oil, I prefer healthier avocado oil
Medium-size shrimp, peeled and deveined
Green onions
Garlic
Ginger
Light soy sauce
Oyster sauce
Chinese cooking wine, optional
Sesame oil, optional
Chili Flakes, optional

Can I use Frozen Shrimp?
Yes, definitely. I use pre-peeled frozen raw shrimp. Let it thaw in the refrigerator overnight or follow package directions to speed thaw in cold water.
When the shrimp is defrosted, pour out the liquid, rinse well, and pat dry with clean paper towels.
In addition, you can, of course, use fresh shrimp or other seafood as well.

How to Make
Learn how fast and easy it is to make Chinese sautéed shrimp.

Step 1 – Start by cleaning and deveining the shrimp. Heat cooking oil over medium-high heat in a large skillet or wok.
Add oil, the white part of the green onion, ginger, and 2/3 of the garlic. Saute for 1 minute until fragrant. Be careful not to burn.
Step 2 – Quickly add the shrimp to the pan, spreading them out in a single layer. Add in the remaining seasonings.
Cook the shrimp for 2-3 minutes, stirring frequently, until they turn pink and opaque. Reduce to low heat, then add the remaining green onion and garlic.
Finally, garnish with chopped green onions. Serve the sautéed shrimp over steamed rice or with lo mein noodles for a delicious and quick Chinese meal.

What to Serve with Chinese Shrimp
This shrimp dish pairs well with noodles, such as a lo mein recipe, or an easy vegetable side dish like broccoli, green beans, or asparagus. A bowl of steamed rice or fried rice would also be perfect companions.
Use cauliflower rice or cauliflower fried rice to keep your menu low carb. You can also serve it with zucchini noodles or shirataki noodles. The possibilities are endless!

Made this (again!) This time I added some veggies, broccoli, pea pods, carrots. So Good!
Yay!! Glad you are enjoying it. Thanks for letting me know. 🙂
Absolutely delicious! 😋
Reminds me of the ginger lobster dish served in restaurants. Sauce was a hit and will probably become my first choice way of serving shrimp.
Ooooh! That sounds delicious, Teri! I may need to throw in some lobster next time. LOL. Thanks for sharing. I’m so glad you enjoyed it! 🙂
There is soy sauce, sesame oil and oysters sauce in the recipe, but it doesn’t tell you where/when to use them in the instructions. Lame
Thanks for pointing that out. Those ingredients are added together with the remaining seasonings right after the shrimp go into the pan. I agree that could have been clearer in the instructions, and I appreciate you flagging it so I can improve the recipe.
It literally says it in the instructions
This was so delicious. It was so quick too. Thank you!
Yay!! Thanks for the happy feedback. 🙂
Made this last night again! Used 1/3 cup of both the chopped ginger and garlic. Full-on flavor! It may be too strong for some but we love it. So dang yummy!
So tasty! The flavor was so good with all the garlic, ginger, and green onions. Would definitely recommend it if you like Chinese food.
Thank you so much! 🙂
So delicious! We added lots of garlic and ginger and loved it.
Yay! Thanks for letting me know. I am so glad you liked it.😃
We have made this a number of times!! We now add lots more garlic and even more Ginger!! LOVE IT!!!
I’m so glad you like it! Awesome! We like it best with loads of ginger & garlic too.
Amazing! We made it strong and loved the authentic Chinese flavors.
Agreed, the more ginger & garlic the better! Thanks so much Kelly.
Eating this now and I’m in love! It’s salty, savory, and just a hint sweet. Used 3 heaping tablespoons of ginger paste and worked out wonderfully; raw ginger isn’t used enough to have/keep. Wasn’t sure at first about adding it directly to the hot oil, but after mixing it with garlic and onions, it worked perfectly.
Yay! So happy that you enjoyed it Sierra! We love it too! 🙂
I will try the paste sometime too, thanks for the idea!
